Photographed during the 2026 Montane Winter Spine Race on the Pennine Way, this image became the closing photograph in my book SPINE. Discovered by chance while driving between checkpoints before sunrise, the lone tree immediately reminded me of the loss of Sycamore Gap. Illuminated by the headlights beneath the first light of dawn, it stood quietly against the landscape—a symbol of endurance, hope and renewal.

After a week documenting exhaustion, isolation and the relentless challenge of the Spine Race, this photograph felt like the only way to end the story. It is a reminder that even after loss, nature has a remarkable ability to endure, and that every ending carries the promise of a new beginning.

Each print is produced in my Dorset studio using a Canon PIXMA PRO professional printer on your choice of Canon Premium Matte paper or Canon Pro Platinum Gloss paper. Every print is individually signed, carefully inspected and packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.
